Fire alarm upgrades – #KeepingYouSafe
At SBHA we are committed to doing all that we can to ensure the safety of Tenants in their homes. Our contractor, Easyheat, is currently carrying out fire detection system upgrades in Tenants’ homes, in line with Scottish Government legislation brought out as a response to the tragedy at Grenfell. We caught up with Easyheat Director Stevie Watson, and asked him to tell us a bit more about what this involved, and why it’s so important.

“Our fully-qualified engineers, like Jakub (pictured) are carrying out upgrades to smoke and heat alarms. This is in line with Government legislation which states that, by February 2022, all homes must have
• one smoke alarm installed in the room most frequently used for general daytime living purposes
• one smoke alarm in every circulation space on each storey, such as hallways and landings
• one heat alarm installed in every kitchen
All alarms should be ceiling mounted and interlinked.”
How will appointments be arranged?
“You will receive a letter either from SBHA or from Easyheat, inviting you to make an appointment for a time that’s convenient to you. When you do, please call Easyheat on 0131 6602299 and select option 1.”
How long do appointments take?
“Depending on the works required, 30 minutes to 1.5 hours.”
What happens at the appointment?
“We check all installed alarms and replace them if required, and install new alarms where required to meet the latest compliance LD2.”
Do you have a message for Tenants?
“When you receive your letter, please don’t put off making an appointment. There is no major upheaval within the home as we install a hybrid system (mix of radio linked and hard-wired alarms) to avoid lifting carpets and floors. An accidental fire in your home can have a really devastating impact. A working and up-to-date fire detection system can be a lifesaver – every home needs to have one.”
