If you feel you or your child are in immediate danger and need help, call 999

When calling 999, if you can’t speak, listen and respond to the instructions, make yourself heard by making a noise or tapping. Press 55 during the call and you’ll be automatically transferred to the police – to inform them you are in a genuine emergency.

What is domestic abuse?

Domestic abuse is a single incident or pattern of controlling, threatening or violent behaviour from a family member, partner or ex-partner, aged 16 years old or over.

It can include:

Children under 18 living with domestic abuse are victims too.

A child who sees or hears or experiences the effects of domestic abuse and is related to the person being abused or the perpetrator, is also to be regarded as a victim of domestic abuse.

How can SBHA help?

We’re committed to working with you so you can stay in your own home and feel safe. But it’s all about you deciding what’s right for you.

There’s lots of different ways we can help, including:

  • Linking you up with the right people, experts in working with victims of domestic abuse, who can give you specialist support
  • Taking enforcement action against the person causing the risk
  • Putting together safety plans to help you stay safe
  • Working with the council, charities and voluntary organisations to get you the help you need

Where are the safe spaces near me?

The UK SAYS NO MORE campaign is working with Boots, Morrisons pharmacies, Superdrug pharmacies, Well pharmacies, independent pharmacies, HSBC and TSB banks across the UK to provide Safe Spaces in their consultation rooms for people experiencing domestic abuse. You can use a safe space in whichever way works for you.

They provide a safe and discreet way to reach out to friends and family, and contact specialist support services. Safe Spaces in the Scottish Borders are open and ready for you to use.
