#ClearItAway – our Fire Safety Campaign

This is the third short article in our campaign focussing on communal area fire safety. This time we hear from the SBHA Neighbourhood Team covering Langlee in Galashiels, Kelly and Greig. As with all Neighbourhood Teams, they are faced with many issues when it comes to the disposal of rubbish and large items.

Kelly Mitchell, Neighbourhood Housing Officer, said: We are pleased to be working with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service in drawing attention to the importance of keeping the stairwells clear from belongings and rubbish.

The Clear It Away campaign that we have launched will hopefully do this. It can be easily misunderstood that stairwells can be used as an extension to properties, however they are vital for emergency services access and failing to keep them clear could have devastating consequences.
We would like to support Tenants with this and if you need any help or advice then please contact us.”

Greig Murray, Neighbourhood Maintenance Surveyor, added: “Over the past few years SBHA has spent a considerable amount of money to improve the way we dispose of rubbish and recycle our household waste. We have erected designated bin areas, we carry out regular estate walk abouts to make all involved aware of what we as a landlord are trying to achieve. We are working with other agencies to try to help our Tenants with any problems they may have disposing of rubbish. We really need to address any rubbish lying around and challenge those who dump items to make our homes and community a better place to be.”

The message is clear – Clear it Away!

If you have any queries or would like to report any issues that may require inspection you can contact SBHA on 01750 724444 or send an email to enquiries@sbha.org.uk.
