Theatre Without Walls – First Nights – Through the Shortbread Tin

Thanks to a generous partnership with the National Theatre of Scotland, SBHA was delighted to offer 20 tenants a night at the theatre on Wednesday 2nd April at the Corn Exchange in Melrose. The evening began with a delicious meal, followed by a performance of Through The Shortbread Tin, a new production written and performed by Martin O’Connor and directed by Lu Kemp. Delivered in Scots with Gaelic songs, this captivating show explores themes of Scottish culture, myths, history, and identity, and is currently touring across Scotland. Our theatre goers had a brilliant evening and have been raving about the performance!

This opportunity was made possible through the First Nights initiative by the National Theatre of Scotland – a programme designed to open the doors of theatre to those who might not usually attend, whether due to geography, cost, or simply never having had the chance. It aims to break down barriers and introduce people to different types of theatre, beyond the traditional Christmas Panto, in the hope of inspiring a lifelong love for live performance.

A special congratulations to Michaela Lazzari, winner of our Facebook competition, who received dinner and two tickets for the evening!
