Croft Street Area Consultation

SBHA is undertaking a significant consultation in the Croft Street Area of Galashiels.  Streets included: Croft Street – Huddersfield Street Area (including Hill Street, Greenbank Street & Galabank Street).

Earlier this month SBHA launched a survey seeking the views and feedback from the local community on living and working in the area.  We want to find out what matters to people in the neighbourhood and what they would like to see improved in their area.

SBHA has commissioned Oberlanders Architects and LUC Landscape Architects to undertake a feasibility study to review the condition of the homes, communal and outdoor areas in and around the Croft Street and Huddersfield Street community.

We will be holding an open afternoon on Friday 27th May between 12noon and 4pm at the car park in Galabank Street.  We are encouraging interested parties to attend to share their views.

Julia Mulloy, SBHA Chief Executive, commented:  “The Croft Street area in Galashiels is an area that requires a degree of modernisation and regeneration, and with partners, we are asking local people about what’s important to them.  Early feedback from our survey tells us that town centre living is important to people who live there.  The event on Friday is another opportunity for people to tell us more about what’s good about living in the area and what they would like to change.  We hope local people can make the time to come along and tell us more.”

Investment in homes in the Croft Street area is challenging as it is a neighbourhood with multiple ownership, as well as lots of under-utilised outdoor space.  SBHA own two thirds of the homes and we want to work with homeowners, Scottish Borders Council, Waverley Housing, other landlords, and those renting privately in the area, to help improve the look and feel of the whole community.

The survey can be found online (click on link below), and all residents and businesses in the area have been hand-delivered a paper copy.  The closing date for the survey is 10th June.
