Worried about money? We can help.
Want to know more about how we can help you with money? Here’s a great story from one of our Tenants, who told us how her Neighbourhood Housing Officer and SBHA’s Welfare Benefits Officer helped her get back on her feet.
“I have to thank my Housing Officer for the help in getting my life back on track as last year I couldn’t get myself out of the financial hole I was in. I felt I had no one and no where I could turn to so I buried my head deep in the sand, ignoring letters, phone calls, just shutting myself away whilst my rent arrears were piling up until my home that I share with my son was at risk of being taken off me.
“I agreed to meet with my Housing Officer but I walked in with absolutely no hope and no trust in anyone. After speaking with her and understanding the severity of the arrears she advised me to apply for Universal Credit. I had only heard negative things about Universal Credit and that you take a loss in money and at that time I couldn’t think of anything worse so changing to Universal Credit was not an option for me.
“After this meeting I decided to apply for Universal Credit and SBHA’s Welfare Benefits Officer came to my house and sat with me, talked me through it all and then helped me apply online. I’ve now been with Universal Credit since February and it has changed my life. I now get a lot of help with my rent and I feel so much better off as I’m able to chip away at my debt, where before I thought my only option was to declare myself bankrupt. I work 20 hours a week and was completely surprised at what I’m entitled to.
