Scrutiny Project – Summer 2024 & Training with TIS

GET INVOLVED – INSPIRE OTHERS – MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Have you got a bit of spare time this Summer and would like to help shape services at SBHA?  Then why not join this year’s Customer Audit Team!  Over the Summer months, a group of Tenants will be looking at a service area at SBHA and suggesting ways to help improve the service where required.  This is your opportunity to really influence decision-making at SBHA.

Since 2015, a total of 8 Scrutiny projects have been carried out by SBTO’s Customer Audit Teams, with support from SBHA’s Tenant & Community Engagement team.  These projects have highlighted improvement recommendations from Tenants that SBHA has implemented to help improve services and Tenant satisfaction.

What is Scrutiny?

  • Tenant Scrutiny: Tenants and customers are involved in the self-assessment of housing services to review how housing services are being delivered and how they can be improved.
  • Scottish Housing Charter: The Scottish Social Housing Charter sets standards and outcomes for social landlords to focus their efforts on achieving outcomes that matter to their customers.
  • Scrutiny Methods: Scrutiny methods include fact finding, research surveys, interviews, understanding and reviewing policies, reality checking, reporting and evaluation.
  • Scrutiny Benefits: Benefits of Scrutiny include partnership working, influencing decisions, improved Tenant satisfaction, recommending improvements, and achieving value for money.

This is what SBTO Joint Vice-Chair Ralph Nichol would like you to know about Scrutiny:

“Scrutiny to me is the chance to look at what SBHA does and how it does it, and this is only possible with the close co-operation and help of SBHA and its team. Why bother, you may ask?  Well, SBHA was created by Tenants for Tenants, and the best way to ensure that Tenants are heard and listened to is through Scrutiny and consultation – looking into how SBHA is performing against their Standards and Tenant expectations.  Training in Scrutiny is given each year prior to undertaking a project and there is always the mentoring and support of those who have undertaken previous Scrutiny projects.  It’s a great way to have your voice heard and make positive changes for all customers of SBHA.”

Recent Scrutiny training was delivered by Ilene Campbell, Chief Executive of the Tenants Information Service (TIS). Thank you to Ilene for an excellent day of refresher training.
