SBHA Supporting Young People

This week SBHA has welcomed Hawick High School students Lexie Keown (S6) and Rory Swinton (S4) for a week of work experience.

Lexie, who is looking to pursue a career in digital marketing, is working with the Tenant Engagement & Communication Team as a Marketing & Engagement Assistant. Lexie is looking to gain experience in marketing in the workplace and to see how marketing and communications is applied to a career, to further expand her knowledge before studying a marketing degree next year at university.

Throughout the week, Lexie will be gaining an insight into the housing sector focussing on engagement, communications, and marketing.  She will be learning about the skills required in a busy team and delivering some key initiatives this week, including creating social media posts, the judging of the Tenant Calendar 2024 and our Winter Newsletter. One of Lexie’s first jobs was interviewing Rory for this article! In her spare time, Lexie waitresses in Hawick, and enjoys sport, playing for Hawick High School senior hockey team.

Rory, who enjoys woodwork at school, will be working in the Property Services Team within SBHA, primarily in homes in Hawick and Jedburgh, where we are fitting new kitchens and bathrooms. Rory is looking to gain experience at SBHA as he is interested in applying for a joinery apprenticeship in the future. He has many hobbies, but he specifically enjoys playing rugby for Hawick Youth Under 16s and going to the gym.
