Focus on fire safety – smoke alarm upgrades

This week we’re focusing on fire safety.

Did you know that the Scottish Law for fire and smoke alarms is changing? From February 2022, every home in Scotland will be required by law to have interlinked fire alarms mounted on the ceiling. An interlinked fire and smoke alarm system is made up of alarms that communicate to each other, which means if one alarm goes off, they all go off so no matter where you are in your home, you’ll be able to hear the alarm.

With the deadline fast approaching, we’re now sending out appointment letters to all Tenants who haven’t yet had this work carried out. Please make sure that we’re able to access your home to carry out this vital work. If the appointment is unsuitable, please contact our contractor, EasyHeat to rearrange. If you’re worried that you may have been missed, please call us on 01750 724444.

Government legislation states that, by February 2022, all homes must have
• one smoke alarm installed in the room most frequently used for general daytime living purposes
• one smoke alarm in every circulation space on each storey, such as hallways and landings
• one heat alarm installed in every kitchen
All alarms should be ceiling mounted and interlinked
