Ageing Well Strategy 2021-26

In the Scottish Borders, the proportion of older people is increasing faster than elsewhere in Scotland. We are committed to ensuring that our Tenants have the options and support available to allow them to age well.

Our new five-year Ageing Well Strategy aims to:

  • Explore housing types that will allow older people to remain living independently in their chosen home and to participate in their communities.
  • Where it is the right choice for Tenants, introduce incentives to help people ‘right-size’ – moving to a home that better suits their needs.
  • Help people to make the most of the advantages of digital access while making sure that no-one gets left behind.
  • Work with partners, including Befriending and Living Well Strategies, to explore how we can better support people.
  • Increase the supply of adapted and wheelchair-accessible homes to suit various needs.
  • Make use of assistive technologies that allow people to maintain independence – these can include tech that helps with daily household tasks, with personal safety and security, with remembering appointments or keeping in touch with friends or family.
