SBHA Teams on the ground in flood-hit areas

SBHA Team members went above and beyond over the weekend, working with colleagues at Scottish Borders Council, the Hawick Flood Defence Group and Newcastleton Community Council to assist those in flood-risk areas.

Flood warnings for Saturday evening were issued for Hawick, Jedburgh and Newcstleton, with Hawick’s Slitrig Water, the Jed Water at Chesters and the Liddel Water at Newcastleton all reaching record level highs.

The SBHA Team helped residents at Richmond Row in Jedburgh to pack up their belongings and move to alternative accommodation as a precaution following news that the nearby flood defences had been damaged the previous week. defences here held, although there was flooding in some other parts of Jedburgh.

In Hawick, more than a dozen streets were at risk of flooding, with many residents advised to leave their homes.  Over Saturday night, Team members checked on all Tenants whose homes were at risk of flooding, and helped to staff rest centres in Hawick and Newcastleton when homes were evacuated.

Newcastleton was badly affected by flooding, and the SBHA Team led efforts to find people alternative accommodation. We are continuing to support Tenants affected by the flooding in Newcastleton.
