AGM: New Board Members
30 August 2007
SBHA held its 5th Annual General Meeting on Monday 27th August 2007. There was significant competition for the Board places this year with both the Independent and Tenant categories over-subscribed (i.e. substantially more candidates than Board places avaiable). Nominations to the Board's third category, "Council nominees" have just been received from Scottish Borders Council. At the Board Meeting following the AGM, Oliver Angus (pictured) was re-elected as SBHA's Chairman, with Rob McVittie voted in as Tenant Vice Chair. (No decision yet on the Councillor Vice-Chair.) Ogilvie Dickson was this year's Guest Speaker at the AGM, and provided a whirlwind tour of his varied and accomplished life, starting out near Newcastleton as a shepherd's son. He recalled his work with the Gurkhas in Malaya and his world-wide love of travel. In business he pioneered new business projects in the Scottish Borders and beyond, as well as continuing to manage his construction firm. A truly inspiring and enthralling speaker. If you are a Shareholder but feel you don't want to serve on the main Board of Management, the Association will be writing to all Shareholders shortly to seek nominations for places on its two Area Boards. These Boards focus on SBHA's front-line service performance i.e. repairs, and housing management (allocation of homes, and rents management). More information about Area Boards will be posted here in the next few weeks.
