SBHA celebrated their first “Stars Awards” last week, a Staff recognition scheme where Tenants, Board Members, other businesses and colleagues nominate a Member of Staff for excellence in one of the five categories including customer service, professional excellence and team work.
Over 120 nominations were received all citing why they felt their chosen Staff Member was exceptional. The judging panel, made up of Members from Scottish Borders Tenants Organisation and the Board of Management, had an exceptionally difficult task.
Amy MacNaughton, PA to the Executive Team was announced as the overall winner, receiving the “Oliver Award” named after SBHA’s founding Chairman, Oliver Angus. Amy was so shocked at being chosen she was uncharacteristically speechless but later commented “I still can’t believe it, I won! I’m so pleased, the Award is brilliant… Im going to put it out on show for everyone to see. I was really pleased at being nominated and even more shocked to have won as I was up against such strong contenders!”
Winners of each of the 5 categories were – Customer Service Star – Alison Notman for her work in supporting Tenant Participation; Professional Star – Jimmy Miller for his quality of work as a joiner and customer focus; Shining Star – Paul Foster for his work in project delivery in IT and, Outstanding Achievement Star – Amy MacNaughton. The team award winner, Church Square Project Team was chosen as the Staff worked with residents and Scottish Borders Council colleagues to transform an estate and create a neighbourhood model which can be replicated in other areas.
Julia Mulloy, Chief Executive for SBHA stated “The Stars Awards has been something which has been designed and developed by Staff. They felt it would be great to formally recognise people for their outstanding contributions to SBHA and show they are valued and appreciated in this way. We have been overwhelmed by the number of nominations and it’s fantastic to see so many people being nominated by their peers and customers doing great work and getting the recognition they deserve.
The Independent Panel chose Amy as she has transformed her role in SBHA last year leading on the re-vamp of SBHA’s web-site and developing the new complaints handling software. The “Stars Awards” allows people to feel valued and lets the Board and Scottish Borders Tenants Organisation get to know the nominees and their impact on SBHA.”
